Safe Environment Requirements

 

Archdiocesan policy requires all church personnel and volunteers to obtain background checks (Part I) and training (Part II) prior to beginning work/service. 

 

Background Check & Clearance Requirements (Part I) are as follows:

All Volunteers (including coaches)

All three clearances must be renewed every 5 years.

            1.         Federal Fingerprint Background Check *


                              IF NOT Pennsylvania resident for 10 continuous years.

            2.         Volunteer Application Disclosure form *

IF Pennsylvania resident for 10 continuous years.

            3.         Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check *

            4.         Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance *

Training Requirements (Part II) are as follows:

All church personnel who have regular contact with children must complete the following training:

            1.         Safe Environment Part I: Protecting God’s Children class (in person)**

            2.         Safe Environment Part II: Mandatory Reported of Suspected Child Abuse


                Must be completed on-line through the OCYP website at  www.childyouthprotection.org under “Training Institute”.

           

Coaches

            In addition, all coaches must attend the Archdiocese of Philadelphia CYO Coaches Orientation session.  Locations of the sessions can be viewed on www.CYOPhilly.org.   Please turn in a copy of your certificate of attendance to the parish office to be kept on file. 

Those who do not comply will be moved to “inactive status” and not be permitted to work or volunteer until all requirements have been met.

   * Required by Pennsylvania state law.
