Good Works Ministry

Good Works Ministry

Our Mission:

Under the direction of Good Works, this home repair ministry brings the Lord’s love to those less fortunate in Chester County by making their homes warmer, safer and drier. Good Works is a Christian nonprofit organization which exists to transform lives by repairing homes for low-income families and share the hope found in Jesus Christ.

What We Do:

This home repair ministry meets on the 3rd Saturday of the month and brings the Lord’s love to those less fortunate in Chester County by making their homes warmer, safer and drier. Families and parish ministries/organizations provide lunch for the workers and homeowners. Open to all parishioners at any time of the year. Every 3rd Saturday of each month, we make repairs to a designated house in Chester County. We work with, support and get direction from the Good Works, Inc. organization (www.goodworksinc.org) that supplies all the tools and materials required at no cost to the homeowner or volunteers.

Home Repair Volunteers: Typical projects include painting, plumbing, electrical work, installing windows, flooring, drywall, handicap accessibility and insulation. No previous experience is required. Supervision is provided by technical personnel so don't let lack of skills prevent you from participating.

Lunch Volunteers: Prepare with family, friends or ministry a lunch consisting of an entree, desert and beverage for approximately 20 people. Deliver it to the worksite and stay and share the meal with the workday parishioners and homeowner.

Work Crew Leader: Plans the projects to be accomplished on the workday, manages the volunteers doing the repairs on the home, promotes safety and quality workmanship, coordinates cleanup at the end of the workday and plans the projects and materials needed for the next workday.

Technical Coordinator: Requires a good working knowledge of one or more of the following areas: electrical work, roofing, carpentry and/or plumbing. The Technical Coordinator completes the more technical repair work, and provides on-the-job training for volunteers.

Ambassador: He/she is the liaison between the homeowner and the Good Works team/organization. They typically assess the social, emotional and spiritual needs of the homeowner during the repair process. They must be good listeners and help the work crew to be sensitive to the homeowner’s feelings and emotions. A big heart is essential to fulfilling this function along with a devout faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings.

Parishioners are welcome to participate in our ministry at any time of the year. You can participate from just one workday a year to some or all of our monthly workdays.
