Our Mission:
With the Grace of the Holy Spirit, the St. Elizabeth Bereavement Ministry will reach out to those who mourn with love and compassion, to provide comfort, support and hope through their difficult journey of grief.
What We Do:
We provide assistance to parishioners when a loved one dies. We will meet with the family members to help plan the Funeral Liturgy. On the day of the funeral, members of our team will be present at the funeral to greet anyone attending and to assist as needed to make sure all feel welcome and help with directing the congregation.
During the year, our Ministry sponsors a Memorial Mass for Mothers and Fathers who have passed away during the previous year. These Masses are on the Saturday before Mother's Day and Father's Day.
In November on or near All Souls Day, our Ministry helps to coordinate the special Mass of Remembrance for all parishioners and relatives of parishioners who have passed during the prior year. Candles are lit for each of the deceased and during the Intercessions of the Mass, each name is read aloud and prayed for.
We have what we refer to as Prayer Corner team. This is a small group of members who make calls to parish families who have lost a loved one and they were not buried from St. Elizabeth. They offer condolences to the family and let them know that they can call on us if they have a need.
We organize a First anniversary card to be sent to each St. Elizabeth parishioner who had a loved one pass away. At the time of the passing, Father Mullin reserves a Mass on or near the First Anniversary. Then a couple of weeks prior to that reserved Mass an anniversary card is sent with a reminder of the scheduled Mass for their loved one.
Our Ministry also sponsors a six-week Grief Share session in the Fall.
