Volunteer English Program (VEP)

The Volunteer English Program's mission is to connect community-wide volunteers with adult English Language Learners to provide one-to-one tutoring and cultural enrichment that empowers immigrants to be successful within our communities. Non-native English speaking immigrants and refugees living and working throughout Chester County are seeking someone like you to personalize their English language instruction and provide American cultural guidance. Tutors and students alike are adults who represent all ages, backgrounds, and interests. These partnerships open doors to many life-changing opportunities for each individual.

VEP professional staff will prepare you to work remotely or in person with an English Language Learner (ELL) at any level of proficiency. VEP students speak over 22 languages and represent close to 42 countries.

Prior teaching experience or fluency in a language other than English is not required. References and background checks will be conducted before being matched with a student.

Your volunteer commitment will include choosing a student and meeting with her/him for a total of 3 hours per week for at least one year. Tutor and student will decide whether to start virtually or in person. The goal is to eventually meet in person when both parties feel it is safe enough to do so.

For more information about the program and the tutor experience, please visit our website, volunteerenglish.org, or call the VEP office at 610-918-8222 ext. 2.
