Bulletin - May 20, 2018

A Word from Father Mullin

Christ is risen, Alleluia. He is risen indeed, Alleluia!

Old-time Catholics may remember the traditional prayer included as the Gospel Acclamation for today’s Mass:

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

This Pentecost Sunday, my prayer for each of you, and for myself as well, is that the Holy Spirit will indeed fill our hearts and inspire us to a greater love for others, most especially for those in need among our brothers and sisters across our nation and around the world.

Fr. Tom Mullin

TuitionCare Program

The TuitionCare program, developed by the Foundation for Catholic Education, allows parishioners to redirect their PA state tax dollars in support of Catholic education and contribute to a tuition reduction grant for all Saint Elizabeth Parish School families.

For more information about TuitionCare and the PA EITC/OSTC tax credit programs, come out for an information night in the social hall this Wednesday, May 23, at 7:00 PM or go to the parish website (stelizabethparish.org).

Update on Parish Landscaping

Have you noticed the extensive planting of new trees, bushes, shrubs and flowers around the parish property in recent weeks? So what’s going on?

The construction of the new Columbia Pipe Line about two years ago entailed significant site disturbances along Fellowship Road and Pottstown Pike. The monies received by the parish in exchange for the right of access for the pipe line are being used to restore the parish landscape along the walking/bike trail, to replace some of the trees in the parking lot islands lost over the years and to add plantings in front of the education center and around the priests’ residence.

No additional parish funds have been spent on this project. Remember, too, that maintenance of the walking/bike trail remains the responsibility of Upper Uwchlan Township (not the parish).

Memorial Day Holiday

All parish offices will be closed on Sunday, May 27, and Monday, May 28, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. For those who want to start their holiday off in a prayerful way, Mass will be offered in church at 9:00 AM that Monday. Note that there is no Exposition on Monday, May 28. Happy Memorial Day!

New TuitionCare Program for Catholic Education

If you could help reduce the current tuition rate for students enrolled in Saint Elizabeth Parish School

by $500 and possibly as much as $1,000 per family, would you do it? Here’s how easy it is: Join TuitionCare!!

Saint Elizabeth Parish is participating in an exciting new pilot program developed by the Foundation for Catholic Education entitled TuitionCare. This program is aimed at significantly reducing tuition for our parish school families, while at the same time increasing participation by our parishioners in the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) Special Purpose Entity (SPE) program.

The program combines EITC/OSTC tax credits offered by the State of PA with a Tuition Reduction Grant provided by the Foundation to local schools like Saint Elizabeth Parish School. The amount of the tuition reduction grant is proportionate to the number of the Saint Elizabeth individuals or families participating in the TuitionCare Special Purpose Entity for 2018-2019. The SPE is open not only to current and prospective parish school families, but also to other Saint Elizabeth parishioners who would like to redirect their state taxes in support of Catholic education.

To qualify to participate in the TuitionCare SPE, one must be an employee or an owner of a business firm authorized to do business in the state of Pennsylvania and be subject to PA income taxes. To understand the amount of your state tax liability, simply review line 12 of your most recent PA-40 Tax form; this amount represents the total tax dollars you can redirect to the Foundation for Catholic Education to support TuitionCare. The state of PA allows for 90% of your contribution to be claimed as a tax credit when calculating your final payment of PA income taxes. In addition to your own tax advantage, your contribution enables the Foundation to provide tuition assistance to qualifying families who struggle to provide a Catholic school education for their children. That’s what we call a “Win-Win!”

For more information about TuitionCare, go to the parish website (stelizabethparish.org) to review a detailed power point presentation and to examine the Operating Agreement & Disclosure documents for the TuitionCare SPE. You can then download the “Commitment to Contribute to TuitionCare 2018-2019” document, sign the agreement and indicate the amount of your contribution to the Foundation for Catholic Education.

Note: The completed documents must be mailed to Judi McLane Neeld at 1373 Enterprise Drive, West Chester, PA 19380 no later than June 17, 2018. No payment is required until the SPE tax credit has been awarded by the state. Questions may be directed to Judi Neeld at 610-793-8503 or This email address is being protected from spambots. A special “Thank You” to the Foundation for Catholic Education and to the Saint Elizabeth Parish School Advisory Council for working together to provide the opportunity for Saint Elizabeth to be among the first parishes to pilot the TuitionCare Program.
