Bulletin - July 8, 2018

A Word from Father Mullin

Talk about a less than welcoming homecoming! Today’s Gospel (Mark 6:1-6) tells us that when Jesus returned to his home town of Nazareth to preach in the synagogue, he received a very mixed reception from the local folks. While some were astonished by his wise teaching and mighty deeds, others took offense at him and put no faith in him.

How often are one’s own family members and neighbors the last ones to recognize and affirm the special talents and skills for which he or she is respected and appreciated in other settings (at work, at school, in the larger community)?

This summer, I encourage you to look more closely at those closest to you and identify one talent or skill in each of them that you can acknowledge with an affirming word and a generous compliment. May we learn to build each other up, rather than cut each other down in our words and behaviors toward one another.

May the Holy Spirit continue to lead us in sustaining a holy and faithful parish community here, for unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it.

Fr. Tom Mullin
