Bulletin - September 9, 2018

A Word from Father Mullin

As I write this week, I am still haunted by Jesus’ words in last Sunday’s Gospel (Mark 7) charging the Pharisees for their hypocrisy: “This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” We face a painfully similar hypocrisy in the Church today.

Too many ordained ministers, priests and bishops alike, have honored God with their lips while their abusive actions against young people and/or their negligence in not taking responsibility for disciplining the abusers and protecting the children demonstrate how far from God their hearts have wandered!

So yet again I encourage you to pray for a healing of mind and heart for those who have suffered any form of personal abuse and to pray also for those whose faith has been weakened and whose trust in the Church has been shattered by the terrible legacy of child abuse.

May God bring healing to the whole Church as we renew our commitment to care for and protect the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ! Fr. Tom Mullin
