A Word from Father Mullin

Now hear this! Now hear this!

Thus says the Lord: “You shall not molest nor oppress an alien, for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 22/20)

These words from today’s first reading take on an especially timely meaning as our nation and other developed nations around the world continue to wrestle with staggering numbers of immigrants and refugees - “present day aliens” - seeking a safe dwelling place in our midst. Are we ready to welcome and care for them?

Jesus’ reaffirmation of the second great commandment - Love your neighbor as yourself - challenges our attitudes, behaviors and political actions in relation to our newest neighbors. Let all who have ears, hear the Word of the Lord!

Father Tom Mullin

Forty Hours Devotions: A Special Time of Prayer

Our annual Forty Hours Devotions will be celebrated on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, November 5-6-7. The Forty Hours Devotions are a special time of prayer before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, solernnly exposed in the monstrance on the altar. All are encouraged to participate in this great time of grace at Saint Elizabeth!

This year's preacher is Father John T. Lyons, a retired diocesan priest who resides at Saint Genevieve Church in Flourtown, PA. Father Lyons will offer a reflection on three themes: Sunday - The Presence of God in Our History & Our Spiritual Journey; Monday- Following the Example of Jesus in Serving Others and Tuesday- Our Intimacy with and in Jesus.

During Forty Hours Devotions, we will have Evening Prayer, a homiletic reflection by Father Lyons and Benediction each evening at 7:00 PM in church. We will also have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM on Monday and Tuesday, to provide time for personal prayer and quiet reflection throughout the day. On Tuesday evening we will have a closing Eucharistic Procession around the church with our parish liturgical ministers.

Individuals, couples and families are invited to take advantage of this sacred time and spend a few minutes, a half-hour or more praying before Jesus really present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist during the day and/or to attend the communal prayer services each evening. Those who would like to register for a period of adoration as public representatives of the parish community as a whole are asked to sign their names on the schedule posted on the bulletin board outside the daily Mass chapel. Please consider participating in this year's FOIty Hours Devotions with your loved ones.

Saint Elizabeth Poor Box Recipient for November and December Society of Saint Vincent de Paul

"What can we do? ... We can offer what little we have. We certainly have a few hours of time, some talent, some expertise. " - Pope Francis (July 26, 2015)

Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level.

Operating within, but independent of, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, through local parish groups called Conferences, the St. Vincent de PauE Society helps those in need with material, moral, and spiritual support. Currently, more than 500 volunteers are involved throughout the Delaware Valley. Conference activity is defined by the needs of the local community. Home visitation is performed across the board. Additional good works can include transportation for elderly/shut-ins; bereavement support; nursing home visitation; holiday dinner/gift drives, etc.

We encourage anyone who would like to participate in the Saint Vincent de Paul Society to contact St. Joseph's branch of SVdeP (Susan Lindsey This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or the Coatesville area branch (Patrick Ivkovich This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). The essential elements of SVdeP are: spirituality, friendship and service to The poor in our area.
